Another Letter Came: Well I'm a little behind with updating my blog. We are almost half-way through October. John has forbidden me from going into the garage because I want to put up the Christmas tree and that's where it's stored. :-). Normally I wait at least until after Thanksgiving but I'm so excited that time is passing. Each new month feels like a HUGE achievement. Christmas has always been one of my favorite holidays but this year Christmas will mean that we should be VERY close to traveling to find our child. So I'm really in a hurry for Christmas to get here this year.
Today we received a letter from Ukraine. My heart jumped a few beats when John came running in from the mailbox saying..Open it ..Open it! I knew that it was still too soon to have our appointment date, and I was worried that it might be bad news regarding the recent fire at the National Adoption Center in Ukraine. (We're still waiting for confirmation that all our documents are okay.) We were relieved when it was just a confirmation that they had received our request for a date. They advised us that they would be sending a letter with our appointment date in December or January. I'm so glad that we have this letter because at least I won't be driving myself crazy wondering if this is the day our letter is coming.
Even though it's very hard to wait we still feel so blessed that God is guiding us on this journey. Ukraine is having a lot of political issues right now and the families that are there adopting are having a really hard time. Most families are having to make two trips because longer waiting periods are being enforced during the transition to new court procedures for adoptions. Some families have been there for 12+ weeks now. We are praying for them daily.
Ukraine is trying very hard to make the system a better one for the children. Our agency advised us today to expect a longer stay in Ukraine than the 3 weeks it normally takes. We pray that God will provide for us financially and emotionally during our journey. Help us remain focused on what is most important which is the children of Ukraine. We know that he will not give us an obstacle that we can not succeed over.
Now for some fun stuff. John and I are have started to prepare a bedroom for our little one. We sold our queen mattress set and are going to use the money to buy bunk beds. We also made our first trip to Toys R Us to actually buy something for our child. (We've been going there for years just to play with the toys :-) At this point we're pretty sure we're going to do a Mickey Mouse or a jungle theme bedroom. We've also chosen names but are not going to announce those to everyone just yet.
For our family: Here is a link to some basic Russian phrases. We thought it might be of interest to you. http://hearttoheartukraine.org/russian.htm.
Stay tuned for another update soon. John will learn the results of his promotion to "officer" this week which may mean another move for us in the near future.
Love,
Janine & John
